Melanie
I'm a 35 yr. old mother of 2 boys 4 & 9. I'm live in a small town in
Michigan. Engaged to a wonderfully supportive man. I've always had a weight
problem but after having my youngest realized that it was way out of control and
had to find a way to get it under control that I could live with and be healthy.
I saw a Dr. Atkins book in a store and started reading and was feeling like he'd
written the book about me, his profile was my life to a tee! I follow Atkins for
the most part with a few slight modifications.
I took off 30 lbs. and was high on life, but soon found out what being an addict
really means (you can not go back to old habits). I slid and slid bad in a
little over a year I'd gained it back and can blame only myself I let it happen.
I found the board and with the support I know I can again loose not only that 30
but the remainder of my extra burden. I know from past experience that a support
group is what keeps me motivated, the thought of sharing parts of your life that
only someone going through the same thing can understand, be able to listen and
not
criticize but lend a helping word of encouragement.
I'm 5'7" and 240 lbs as of 5/8/01 and have a goal of loosing 70 lbs total. I set
mini goals for along the way but all in all I'd like to have it all of in a
year. Once I reach that goal of 170 lbs. I will reassess if I want or need to
loose more. I've seen charts and have spoken to my doctor and some of the
weights are just not realistic for me and he agrees, we will decide when the
time comes, I can't worry about that right now.
I look forward to getting to know all the wonderful people that I've seen on the
message board and the new friends that join us.
